WOMEN WHEELERS - Collection Spring/summer 2013

While northern europe still is snow covered and down here in Spain heavy and gray rainclouds don´t stop passing by, everybody is dreaming of the entry of SPRING!!!

Soon the time will come to get rid of boots and pullovers and just take a ride through beautiful landscapes with flower covered fields and fragrant avenues.

Thinking and dreaming of such sceneries I immidiateley had to think of my bicycle!
And finally that became the main issue of this years SPRING/SUMMER COLLECTION 2013:
                                                WOMEN WHEELERS

Dipping into the story of women riding bicycles I first had to go back in time and discovered very interesting facts about how cycling changed not only social aspects for women but also had a strong influence in fashion!!!
In fact one can say that from 1817 onwards "women rode the bicycle to freedom" and I recommend to everybody who is interested in fashion, cycling and the history of womens emancipation to watch out for information about this theme.

I enjoyed reading about this topic and finally finished in the 1920s to 30s when women and bicycles were not any longer a shocking and highly discussed issue.

Nowadays women ride their "hobby horses" ( another expression I found for naming the bicycle) all over. But here in Sevilla, my place of residence, I am still missing something:
sometimes it seems like cycling for some people is still considered a sporting activity more than an eco-friendly way of locomotion.
Riding your bike does not implicate that one cannot wear short skirts, high heels or elegant dresses!
Quite contrary: feel free to wear whatever you want!

So you will find various elements of shapes from different ages, small-size pattered fabrics, quaint volumes, tricky patterns and as usual old bottons and other handsome details!

I could tell much more about my investigation - but as in fashion normally words have not the same importance as images I´ll leave my short assembly and just show you the result!

So I´ll leave you with an excerpt of Sue Macy´s book: Wheels of Change:
" A bright, sunny morning, fresh and cool, good roads and a dry atmosphere, a beautiful country before you, all your own to see and enjoy and a properly adjusted wheel awaiting you: What more delightful than to mount and SPEED AWAY."

I hope you enjoy the pictures!!!

LAVIQUE Y LOS GOYA 2013

In between, I am very proud to show you one of my latest works which went directly from my studio to the presentation of the Spanish Film Award - GOYA 2013

"Lucky me" I thouhgt, when Mercedes Cantero came to my place looking for an outfit for this very special event.
I liked the idea, that she didn´t want to appear wearing an exaggerated  and glamorous evening robe (also quite improper for the actual situation of Spain in my opinion).
She needed something special but comfortable and of course matching with her personality and also with the film she was nominated for (Mercedes realized the montage of a Cuban Film called: JUAN DE LOS MUERTOS).

So she chose one of the african fabrics I kept from my Ghana trip an indicated me, that she likes those long sleeve Jeans shirts that are in vogue right now.
The final design of her dress is inspired in this style. The african fabric had a lot of posibilities to play with its pattern and I added a dark Jeans fabric for the breast piece and the cuffs. Finally the result is this long sleeve shirt-dress, with a collar and some nice modernism bottons.
In combination with this dress I made a hair ribbon out of the same fabric and me and Mercedes really liked the result.

Now this story didn´t come to an end yet.
I really couldn´t believe after nearly 2 hours watching the Goya show when they said: " And the Goya for the best Iberoamerican Film goes to: Juan de los muertos!"
Suddenly the responsible artists of this film entered the stage (they were as suprised as me) to call for their GOYA!!!
Just click on the following link to see the short video:

GOYA PARA LA MEJOR PELICULA IBEROAMERICANA

This was a totally new expierience and I am very happy that Mercedes chose my design to go to the GOYAS  and somehow I still cannot believe that so many people have seen my dress that night!
Unforgetable!

I hope you also enjoy the short video and the pictures!

See you soon!!!

Lavique Fall/Winter 2012/13: "Talkin parrot"

Ok-here it is my new autumn/winter collection 2012/13

This year I investigated 40-ies shilouettes and combined them with some sporty shapes.I also reduced my colourful streak to a minimum and started crochet to have some winterly accessories like scarfs, caps and wrist warmers.
What is left than is what you see: wide Marlene- trousers, bulky hoodies, puffed sleeves, high waisted dresses and other features in autumnal colours.

I used to hear preferable Jamiacan Mento music from the 1950-ies during the design and production process.
So I named the collection as one of my favourite songs from this times: " Talkin parrot"
I think it fits quite well!
Enjoy the pictures! And come around to try on your favourite!
